Chanel M. Bradden is an Assistant Corporate Secretary, International Subsidiary Governance, for Lockheed Martin Corporation, responsible for the management of Lockheed's portfolio of international subsidiaries. Since 2005, Chanel has led a successful career as a paralegal with positions including Senior Paralegal, Marriott International, Inc., managing the company's portfolio of 200+ domestic subsidiaries, and Northrop Grumman Corporation, where she served as Corporate Paralegal, Securities and International Subsidiary Management. Chanel sits on the NCAPA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. She is also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of OnPoint, NCAPA's premier publication, and is a co-chair of NCAPA’s Mentorship Committee. Chanel is a native Philadelphian, where she received her Associate Degree in Office Science. She later received her Paralegal Certificate in Washington, DC in 2004 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies from the University of Maryland University College, expected May 2017.
Ms. King is the Paralegal Coordinator in the Washington, D.C. office for the global law firm, Dentons US LLP, supervising the workflow of the paralegal services team members for the Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia offices. She is one of four Paralegal Coordinators that assists the Director of Paralegal Services with various management and administrative duties, including recruiting, hiring and training, encouraging continuing legal education, and promoting efficient and optimal utilization of non-attorney timekeeper professionals for a business services department of over 140 paralegals, case and project assistants, specialist, and government analyst.
She is also a working paralegal and provides assistance to both the Government Contracts, and Litigation Departments. She has over 12 years of experience with working on case teams involved in government contracts counseling for a variety of clients, including those in the information technology, aerospace/defense, homeland security, and risk compliance industries.
She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Bowie State University in 2002. Ms. King has been an active member of the National Capital Area Paralegal Association (NCAPA) since December 2008. She has served as a Board of Director for NCAPA since August of 2013, and in addition to being the Co-Chair for both the Sponsorship and Pro Bono Committees, she has held previous officer positions with the Board as Secretary, First Vice-President, and President-Elect. Ms. King is the current President for NCAPA in 2017.
Sherene McDougall currently works as a Corporate Paralegal in the law department of a major defense contracting company. Ms. McDougall is responsible for managing the company's domestic and foreign subsidiaries, SEC and NYSE routine filings and corporate governance. She has twenty years of legal experience with six of those years as a Paralegal.
She holds a Paralegal Certificate from George Mason University, and is in the process of acquiring the Advanced Paralegal Certificate (also from George Mason) while also seeking a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College.
Svetlana A. Peshkoff is a paralegal at Shaw Bransford & Roth, a Washington, D.C., firm specializing in federal employment law. She has been a member of NCAPA since 2012, and in addition to publishing several articles for On Point, NCAPA’s newsletter, she has worked on the Biennial Education Conference in the past and Chaired the CLE Committee in 2014, as well as Chairing the Membership Committee in 2015. A former Board member, Ms. Peshkoff has rejoined for 2017 as Membership Chair once again, and has accepted her nomination to become a member of the Executive Committee. Ms. Peshkoff intends to working closely with the NCAPA membership in order to promote the paralegal profession and bring more networking opportunities for all paralegals within the DMV.
Ms. Peshkoff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (“UMBC”), and an Associate of Technical Arts degree in Paralegal Studies from Edmonds College. Ms. Peshkoff is also a Paralegal member of the American Bar Association.
In her spare time, she became licensed to teach Zumba and volunteers with the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources, as well as the Patapsco Heritage Greenway.
Ms. Stanley currently works as a Senior Paralegal in the dispute resolution group at Hilton. Within this role she manages employment and personal injury litigation, class action recovery efforts, patent litigation, regulatory matters, and responds to corporate records subpoenas. She has been an active member of NCAPA since August 2010, after joining the legal department of Marriott International, Inc., as a Litigation Paralegal in the Dispute Resolution group. At Marriott, she worked primarily in subpoena compliance for all Marriott managed properties in the Midwestern United States, Europe and with the Marriott Rewards program and later joined the Employment Law group assisting on nationwide class action lawsuits, reviewing contract labor agreements, preparing litigation holds, and responding to employment-related subpoenas.
Prior to joining Marriott, Alana was a Paralegal in the Washington Headquarters Services, Office of General Counsel, which is a Department of Defense field activity headquartered at the Pentagon. Within that position, Alana worked on a variety of matters in various practice fields to include labor and employment, ethics, contract bid protests, FOIA requests and criminal prosecution with Special Assistant United States Attorneys in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Alana received her A.S. degree/Paralegal Certificate from the University of Maryland in 2008 and has been on the Board of NCAPA since 2015. She has held the position of Co-Chair of the Social Media Committee, First Vice-President, member of the Executive Committee and is currently serving as NCAPA's President-Elect.
D.B. “Brandy” Swanson, CP, RP is the NCAPA Treasurer, Certification Ambassador, assists with the JobBank, and always willing to be a Mentor.
Before joining the NCAPA Board, she was active with NCAPA, assisting as a member and Co-Chairing the CLE Committee. Prior to moving to the DC area she was active in the PANH Board in many roles including Treasurer, President, and NFPA Primary Representative. On the national level, Ms. Swanson has served on the Editorial Advisory Board for NFPA and assisted with a membership project.
Ms. Swanson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies and nearly completed her Masters in Finance before moving to the DC Area. She has been a paralegal since 1999 and is employed by Foster, Murphy, Altman & Nickel, PC, which practices Patent Litigation before the International Trade Commission.
Ms. Swanson enjoys travelling, cooking, singing, as well as scuba diving and flying with her husband.
I have enjoyed active NCAPA membership for many years and now I am a proud Board member with intention to give back. I have passion for my fulfilling paralegal career and am grateful to have substantive wide-range experience in large global law firm, in-house, and federal government cultures. I will never stop learning and aiming higher, including by constantly listening to professional and personal development audio. Outside of my paralegal career, I am an active verified volunteer judge for the Washington Urban Debate League and am an active distributor for Enagic Co., Ltd./Kangen Water® to spread the word on health and wellness. I enjoy regular vigorous exercise to keep me energetic and youthful, and to allow me to fully enjoy family and friends who mean the world to me. Importantly, I thank God every day for my countless blessings.
